January is the month of creativity. #CreativityMonth
What is creativity? Creativity is a skill involving two processes: thinking, then producing. "Creative thinking is not about generating something new from a blank slate, but rather about taking what is already present and combining those bits and pieces in a way that has not been done previously." (1)
Everyone can be creative Yes! It is not something you are born with. It is a skill that can be developed and a process that can be managed. Actually, the research says that both creativity and non-creativity are learned. What did you learn mostly so far?
How to learn to be creative? "Creativity begins with a foundation of knowledge, learning a discipline, and mastering a way of thinking." (2) You can do it by: - experimenting - exploring - questioning assumptions - using imagination - synthesizing information
What does it take? To develop creative skills you need: - opportunities - practice - patience - motivation - inspiration
Why do we talk about creativity? Upcycling is all about creativity! You look at the present objects and combine bits and pieces into something new! It is even more challenging to create things which have nothing to do with the pieces they are made from. Upcycling changes your perspective of seeing everyday use items. You stop seeing them as waste and start to notice their hidden values. It is an amazing exercise to increase your creative skills and to help reduce waste.
This month we CHALLANGE you to make the CREATIVE DIY Project you meant to do ages ago. No matter how complex or simple it is, how neat or precise. Try it, share it and start working on your creative skills. Your mind and Earth will thank you for it!
